    Itinerary

Day 1: Hà Giang City – Heaven Gate (Quản Bạ District) – Lùng Tám Village – H’mong King Palace (Đồng Văn District) – Đồng Văn Town

    Meals covered: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

    Morning:

    Pick-up

After your breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Hà Giang City. Then, we will hand you your protective gears, guide you through the route we are taking today, and start our journey.
    Heaven Gate (Quản Bạ District)
About 47 kilometers from Hà Giang City and at 1500 meters above sea level, Heaven Gate is the first destination of our trip. The gate lies on top of the highest mountain in the area. It’s also the entrance to Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Geopark, which spans across the four districts: Quản Bạ, Yên Minh, Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc.
To reach Heaven Gate, you have to pass through the narrow, steep slopes and sharp turns of National Highway 4C. You might be a bit afraid at first but then comes the excitement. It’s when you see astonishing forests blending in with erecting limestone mountains, together with the descending clouds right in front of you.
Arriving at Heaven Gate, take a look around, you will see the Twin Mountain. Situated right in the middle of picturesque rice fields and rustic villages, Twin Mountain is like a sleeping beauty among the wonderful nature of northeastern Vietnam.
     Lùng Tám Village
Lùng Tám Village is located in a commune with the same name in Quản Bạ District, in an area surrounded by mountains and the river Miện. The village is well-known for its H’mong residences and their linen weaving.
Linen weaving is a traditional craft of the H’mong people here. They choose the species, then cultivate and harvest the flax plants themselves. After that, they process the flax all by hand as well. Fibers will be extracted from the plant’s stem, boiled/steamed until soft, weaved into a cloth, and then dyed using indigo or other natural colors. The final products will be shirts, scarves, purses or bags, etc. full of authentic H’mong patterns.
And more than that, not only can you look at the captivating process, but also directly participate in making yourself a nice gift to bring back home. The H’mong artisans will directly guide you through the steps and show you what to do.
Finishing the craft, you now take a little break to have lunch and rest.
H’mong King Palace (Đồng Văn District)
After lunch comes the H’mong King Palace. H’mong King Palace (or The Vương Family’s Palace as mentioned in official records) is a mansion in Sà Phìn Commune, Đồng Văn District. And it was the place of residence of the H’mong King – the leader of the H’mong people in Hà Giang Province back then.
The construction of the mansion started in 1898 and ended in 1907 under the reign of the first H’mong King Vương Chính Đức. Its architecture is a harmony of H’mong people’s traditional style, French and Chinese influence.
Yin-yang roof tiles, wooden columns and frames, hand-carved doors depicting peach blossoms or poppy flowers – just by stepping inside, you will feel somewhat very nostalgic. It’s like time has stopped since almost everything here remains pretty much intact even after over 100 years. And you’ve stepped into a long-forgotten memory lane to explore many historical and emotional values of the place to the H’mong people around.
     Đồng Văn Town
Leaving the H’mong King Palace, we now head for Đồng Văn Town, the center of Đồng Văn District, the northernmost district of Hà Giang Province and the whole country. There, you will spend your evening here enjoying dinner, walking around town, and recharging before we start Day 2.

Day 2: Đồng Văn Town – Mã Pí Lèng Pass (Mèo Vạc District) – Yên Minh District – Hà Giang City

    Meals covered: Breakfast, lunch

     Morning:

    Pick-up

After your breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Đồng Văn Town.
     Mã Pí Lèng Pass
Taking its name from rugged cliffs that look like a horse’s nose, Mã Pí Lèng Pass is a part of the National Highway 4C and is renowned for being one of the “Four Most Challenging Passes of Northern Vietnam”. A giant snake road connecting Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc District at 1,200 meters high and 20 kilometers long – the pass has dozens of sharp curves which can even scare off the most experienced drivers.
Mã Pí Lèng Pass is stunning all year round. From the peak of the pass, you can have a panoramic view of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Geopark. On this side are the steep mountains and forests, sometimes lovely flower fields too. And on that side is a deep canyon with Nho Quế River flowing right in the middle, called Tu Sản and is considered the deepest canyon in South East Asia.
The green from the trees, the grayish-white from the limestone mountains, and the jade-like color of Nho Quế River are creating a harmonious “evergreen heaven” waiting for you to discover.
